Septic Tank Diagram
Let's start off by clearing some misconceptions. If your house is on a septic system installed in Texas after the 1970's, there is much more to that system than just a tank. There will be a sewer line connecting your house to the tank or to the first tank.
Following the tank(s), will be an area where the liquid effluent is dispersed. In times past, this area was called a leach field. There will be another line, similar to the sewer line discussed above, that will connect your tank(s) to this dispersal field.
So, a septic system is not merely the tank but in fact the sum total of the components, sewer line, tank(s), and dispersal field. The assembly of these components is what makes a septic system.
If you are looking for a diagram of your septic system, your first step should be to contact your local permitting authority and ask if they have records on your system. If you live in Texas, you may request they provide you copies of those records, for a nominal copying fee. The more recent your system was installed, the better the records the agency will have to help you.
